Entry Visa to Russia

Almost all foreign visitors need visa to enter Russia.
There are only few exceptions. Here is a list of visa-free countries.
Don't get scared from the first sentence! We are here to support you, so that it won't be too complicated and long.

There are few different types of possible visas you can get: tourist, business, private, transit visa etc. Our company provides support for tourist visas only. A tourist visa is valid for one entry (in some cases it is possible to get a double-entry visa). Period of stay in Russia: up to 30 days. Extension is not possible!

We strongly recommend you to check the rules for issuing a tourist visa in the Russian Consulate of your country in order to fulfill any special requirements. Here is the list of Russian Consulates all over the world http://www.russia-embassy.net

Procedure

Basically, the procedure of getting Russian visa consists of three steps:

  • Step 1 - Obtaining the Tourist Invitation to Russia
  • Step 2 - Getting the visa issued by the Russian Consulate in your country
  • Step 3 - Registering your visa upon arrival in Russia

Step 1 - Obtaining the Tourist Invitation to Russia

To apply for Russian visa in Russian Counsulate of your country you will need to have the Tourist Invitation issued by a Russian tourist company which has a so-called Tour-Reference number at the Department of Consular Service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

We can provide support for you in obtaining an official Tourist Invitation. The total price for visa support we provide is 35 Euro. It includes issuing the Tourist Invitation, sending it by post / fax to you. General post will take up to 10 days depending on the country, for courier post you have to pay extra. Registering of your stay is free of charge. Consulate fee for issuing visa is not included and is to be paid in the Consulate of your country.

If you need support with Tourist Invitation, please do the following. When booking participation in one of our workshops on this site, include "Visa Support" option. After we get your deposit for participating in the workshop, we will send you the form to fill in (also available here visa_invitation_form.doc). Please fill in the form and send it back to us, we'll issue an invitation and send it by fax / e-mail or by post within next 2 working days.

Step 2 - Getting the visa issued by the Russian Consulate

1. Prepare the required package of documents and submit it to the Consulate
In all cases, you have to present the following papers to the Consulate:

  • Tourist Invitation (usually copy is enough)
  • Consular Questionnaire (completed, dated, and signed by you). You can get it directly from the Consulate or download it from a Consulate’s website.
  • Passport. Important: the passport should be valid for at least 6 months after the end of your intended stay in Russia!
  • Photo (approximate size 3 x 4 cm or 1.5 x 2 inches). Note: Some Consulates still issue the old Russian visa format (as a paper supplement to your passport). In this case, it is required to submit three photos. Photos must be matte-finished, not glossy, for the consulate stamp to properly adhere!
  • Some Consulates can require a medical insurance for all days of your stay with the coverage of 30.000 Euro. Check the rules, usually there is a list of companies accepted by a Consulate to issue it.

2. Pay the consulate fee (you can check tariffs on a Consulate website)

3. Pick up your visa (usually it takes up to 5 days to issue it) and check to make sure that the information is correct.

Step 3 - Registering your visa upon arrival in Russia

According to Russian legislation relating to tourism you have to register your stay within 1 day upon arrival in Russia. The registration must be done by a hotel / hostel for the whole period of  your stay. This procedure is free of charge. Not all hotels / hostels are allowed to register foreign tourists. For this reason we encourage you to choose an accommodation from the following recommended hotels list. We guarantee that all listed hotels / hostels are legally allowed to register tourists. The same applies for hotels that we select for you if you let us book your accommodation for you when registering for one of our workshops. In case you want to book a hotel which is not listed, please call in that hotel and make sure they are allowed to register foreign tourists. Or mail us the name and the phone number of this hotel and we will call there for you and find out. We won't charge anything for this.

To register your visa you will need the following:

  • Copy of your passport and visa
  • Migration card

Important: You will be given the migration card upon entry to Russia on the border. Please complete both parts and present it at passport control on Russian border. The customs officer will put a stamp on your card and tear off the top part of it. Try not to loose your migration card, as it can be troublesome to recover. You will have to submit your migration card at customs passport control again when leaving Russia. You can see the sample of migration card here.

We wish you good luck with these procedures, and do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or additional requests!
